About

Hi, I’m Gerrie.

I’m a techie at heart – I find most things interesting, and I like understanding systems.

I’m one of the four founding members of http://www.flickswitch.co.za and I’m responsible for the architecture and design decisions around our products. I’ve been with Flickswitch from day zero and have been in the ring as we grew from bootstrapped survival mode to providing services in 32 countries. I also still code from time to time 😉

I’m using this blog to share some of the things I learn, some of the things I do, and some thoughts on things that I’m passionate about.

Most of the time that will mean something geeky or otherwise technical, although I do go into some of my non-work loves, mostly being (in the order of my discovery of them) : books, photography, films, and pottery.

Here is a superb book-related quote to end things:

My dear,

We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them. Don’t let them explore you until they’ve explored the secret universes of books. Don’t let them connect with you until they’ve walked between the lines on the pages.

Books are cool, if you have to withhold yourself from someone for a bit in order for them to realize this then do so.

Truly yours,
John Samuel Waters
